A prototype is defined as an early sample, model, or release of a product built to test a concept or process. It is a term used in a variety of contexts, including semantics, design, electronics, and software programming. A prototype is generally used to evaluate a new design to enhance precision by system analysts and users. (Wikipedia)

Prototypes help us to:

  • Produce a product that has gone through the testing process.
  • Get a visual representation of our product, size, packaging for example.
  • Check the sensory components of our product, look, feel, taste, aroma.
  • Get a good understanding of the costs e.g., ingredients, equipment, packaging, or new operating equipment.
  • Iron out any scaling problems when recipes are increased.
  • Get real feedback from the market.

Developing a prototype is like developing one car instead of a whole production line of cars.
